I've found tools, a little bit of money and a few weeks ago a fully operational cell phone. I took the cell phone to the main police station in town.

It is too warm for mid October... :)

It was raining pretty hard so I rode the single speed today. I got 38 miles and 2500 vertical feet, but it was excruciating because it kept throwing the chain. Every time I got out of the saddle (a must for climbing on a 39 x 15), it would throw the chain. Or I'd be spinning along at 19 mph and hit a bump, and off goes the chain.

I must have re-mounted the chain ten times. Frustrating, but my own fault. I was in a hurry when I put on the new chain and rear cog and didn't do the necessary chain voodoo.

I am thinking of adding a pair of 19 tooth cogs on either side of the 15 at the rear. Ugly and heavy, but it would keep the chain in place.

I was able to push a deadline until Tuesday so I left the UES around 1pm on my fendered Soma wearing sneakers, cargo shorts and a showers pass rain jacket to keep the drizzle at bay and to stay warm should the promised t-storms hit.

By the time I hit the GWB, the drizzle turned to plain old humidity and the jacket came off. Great view of the weather- the southern tip of the city shrouded in fog and lots of gray moving fast.

Cresting the hill right past the Englewood boat basin in the Palisades it starts to drizzle again but I hold off on the jacket. Headed downhill in the rain I'm reminded that the rain from below is worse than the rain from above and I'm thankful for the fenders- especially going through muddy areas from previous runoff.

No one on the road except a parks truck or two and its nice having the place all to myself in the rain. The runoff waterfalls are falling fast! Planning on turning around up at Route 9, I head down to the Alpine Boat basin to make it an even mile and a half of climbing. At the bottom, I gear down, hit the lap button on the GPS and start the climb. Peaceful and rhythmic all the way up, keeping the HR and the RPM's low and steady. At the Route 9 light I look down and see I came in a whole 5 minutes slower "than usual". Racks, Fenders and heavy 32's have a tendency to do that I suppose.

The steel frame and the 32's give a cushy ride on the way down, and the lack of traffic makes it easier to work the road to avoid the big stuff. When the hill runs out and the coasting stops I'm rewarded with an appearance of the sun through the clouds, making the ride back to the GWB a bit more hospitable.

The view on the bridge is outrageous. It's windy and the river serves as a dividing line of heavy, dark rain clouds over NJ and sunshine over NYC. The wind is pushing the clouds over to the city. Seems the only racing I do lately is against the weather. I win this one by about 15 minutes before the heavy rain starts.

Never a bad day on the bike.

I am riding the first half of the Hilly Hundred tomorrow. Typical Fall Indiana weather in that we will be starting with temps in the 40's and finishing in the 60's F. Supposed to be windy and sunny so it should be a nice day. Classis ride with up to 5,000 registered riders for the 43rd edition.

Also will be trying out the new Thule Race Track 3-bike, Model 9002. It better be good because it's price point is significantly higher than previous models but reviews seem to indicate the features are worth it. Seemed very solid on the car when I installed it today.

same old same old, pictures taken yesterday on my regular route from Rye to Point Nepean National Park and back, going through Blairgowrie, Sorrento, Portsea.

I am going to ride over to Arthur's Seat later today to watch the Jayco Herald Sun race stage 4 this afternoon, hopefully I have some new pictures to add.

Tough to follow Wei-pal, but I did the commute in the rain both ways.

Thought I'd catch up on a few of these, since I ride at least once every day, and with the weather this October so amazing, I've been tucking an old camera in one of the rear pockets.

On 10/14 we were back over at the Sunriver house for a long weekend, and we did one of our favorite easy trails, the Deschutes River Trail fom Sunriver all the way into Bend, and back. With some side trips, did about 42 miles. Always a beautiful ride, near-perfect conditions this day made for a very relaxing several hours.
