I was once hit by a flying deer. (and it wasn't even X-mas)

Deer running perpendicular to road, planning on crossing in front of me. Truck coming towards me in other lane does not see the deer and hits it. Deer goes flying, hits me, and knocks me over. Happily for me, the impact was not nearly as bad as the one in the video. I did have a pretty bumed-up shoulder for a few days.

Good thing it was a buck and not a mountain lion. The helmet might not have helped.

In my neck of the woods this happens all the time... with Land Rovers and Escalades.

i spooked a couple of deer once and they darted away, but they could have just as easily darted at me...now I make as much noise as possible if I see deer.

I kinda get the idea now.

While not the first to have this happen, I nearly hit a deer broadside at 45mph while decending a steep road about 2 years ago. This was early on a Sunday morning, in an area that has fairly dense trees/underbrush but surrounded by fancy houses. He wandered out into the middle of the road and stood there. I didn't see him until I was nearly right on him as I'd just exited a gradual corner.

I gambled on which side to choose and decided nearly instantaneously to go to the right as that was the direction he'd come from. Turned out to be the right decision. He barely knew I was coming by the time I whizzed past him. That would have hurt as I'd have gone right into his ribs.

Yup! That's why I wear a helmet.....those pesky African Antelope are almost as bad as Squirrels around here. :bike:

That story is going to be good for some free beers for years to come. :)

Not a Kiwi or Tongan so probably not.

SA lost to the Wallabies though.

I would be lying if I didn't admit to being spooked by this. Tons of deer around here, and I saw a guy get seriously taken down by one during a triathlon in southern Virginia.
