Can any tell me, ride quality-wise, what would be a good replacement?

Or if one wants to replace it with the 'real thing', how much it'd be for a new one and where to find it?

The general line hints that it is a F1. Do you have a picture of the complete fork?
Best replacement would be an F3.

Yea, we need a better picture but from what you show it looks like one. That's (so far) pretty much exactly like mine

Titanium dropouts and no lawyer tabs.

My 1996-97 model F1 had 'em.

completely unscientific method and takes a bit more work... :D

when removed, if it weighs like a tank, you are good on the money. ;)

a 1" ouzo pro would be a solid replacement.

Here is another picture of the fork in its complete view. It suffered a deep gash from some road hazard and my friend is considering replacing it. The dropout doesn't appear to be magnetic but not sure if it's titanium or aluminum. Don't know the weight since it's still on the bike as of now. Not sure what a lawyer tab is either.

BTW, it is 1.125" steer.

Any help in identifying or recommending replacement is appreciated.

It's an f2 . Ouzo pro is equivalent.

What are the signs that say this is an F2? Can you or someone elaborate? BTW, there are no lawyer's tab.

1 1/8 makes it F2 or O2 fork (ouzo pro) - F1 was only 1"

Or so I believe...

What he said... and the drop outs are wider than on an F1. F2 will have Ti dropouts, O2 aluminum. F2 has a carbon steerer, not sure about the O2.

The steerer should have a Reynolds label with the fork details (model & rake) on it if it hasn't disintegrated.

Not an F1 ...

I have a F1 and a F3
F1 is more narrow at the dropouts.

looks more like an F2 (if it is a Serotta fork)

Could also be a re-badged Reynolds fork.

3T and ENVE both make nice forks.

You can find others NOS on the bay, frequently.
