View Full Version : Brooks saddle owners....

I don't own one nor have I ridden on one in recent memory- but every one I see in person or in photo the nose appears to be pointing a bit too skyward.

Does a tilt happen with weight on it? Is that the preferred position due to shape?

Comments?

Brooks saddles seem to work best for most folks when there is a slight tilt. Experimentation makes perfection.

Works better for me to have a slight tilt upward.

All of mine (B-17, Swallow) are completely level, and that works for me.

I've always heard that it is a good to break in a Brooks with a slight tilt so you are riding back in the saddle and then level them out (if you want)- this is what I have done with the three or four I've owned and it works great.

I've always had my saddles level or even slightly down a bit at the nose. Not my brooks. It tilts up just a bit.

For me: higher bars, more up tilt... lower bars less, almost level.

I have over 7k miles on my B-17N and it is level. I've tied it around the skirt of the saddle to keep it from sagging too much, I think this is better than using the tension screw. I also just bought a Swift(just over 100 miles on it), which I have tilted up quite a bit, so I don't slide forward on it. As I put miles on it I am adjusting the tilt down. Both saddles are very comfortable and I recommend trying one, even if you don't like it you can sell it and not really lose much.

I agree with this!

Brooks saddles are saddles not seats and you ride in the saddle hammock that is suspended between the nose and the rear support. If your nose is dropped you slide forward and it is NO good.

If you tilt it up, you slide back a bit, but are arrested by your thighs against the sides and back of the saddle, which is just fine. I ride most of my Brooks level, but do use some up-tilt on new saddles or upright bikes.

My Swift's are level but my B17 is nose up slightly.

I go with a slight nose-up tilt on my B-17 as well. I found it to be somewhat slippery, and that I had to keep pushing myself backwards on the saddle otherwise.

+1 - If I don't have the nose tilted slightly up, I tend to slide forward. All of my other saddles (Fizik, Rolls, etc.) I have level.

I also that the rail in the back that supports the leather digs into you a bit unless you tilt the saddle nose high. you are supposed to sit suspended on the leather, not on the back of the saddle like some other saddles.

Nose up so the area your sit bones sit on is relatively flat.
