Got a Campy 9 outfitted bike and want a better crank for it. Can I use either a 9sp or a 10sp crank?

Heck you could use a Shimano eight speed and it would work just fine.

Yep, in fact even 11 spd cranks have been used this way... IIRC, Campy says the 0.4 mm difference in spacing between the chainrings on 9 and 10 spd cranks may make shifting a bit less crisp if you do this... but that's overstating things.

By quite a bit.

Yes. The 10 is narrower by a tad owing to the narrow 10speed chain. Branford bike has a good Campy section and they sell the spacers for the chainring if you go 10 speed crank while running 9. I'm using the same set up on my 9 speed Merlin and simply bought the spacers from Branford Bike.

In post # 5, I'm referring to a Campy 10 crank.

Yes, use any crank but define 'better'. Lighter isn't better necessarily. Is the old crank damaged or something?

Like a 'few' things from these gents, 'spacer kits' for a 10s chainring/crank for 9s systems is not required. I have put 11s cranks/rings onto many 10s systems, both shimano and Campagnolo w/o any modification.

Got a Mirage on the Strong Dirt Road and would like to upgrade.
