Looks like a wonderfull place! Riding along the beach has to be awesome.

I much like the look of that bike now that you have returned to the steel fork. You had a carbon one for awhile if im not misstaken.

I guess it is okay if you like white bikes with red decals built by a master craftsman and riding along the beach.

Dear pals, thanks for all the encouraging responses.

This move I would say comes under the category of "pinch myself to make sure I am not dreaming", if you know what I mean. :D

Louis-pal, the riding is simply superb; nicely paved roads, clearly marked- out cycling lanes, awesome scenery, fresh clean air, all kinds of terrain on offer. The only bad: it's super popular with tourists during the summer, have to watch out for traffic and unattentive drivers, either that or I would have to start earlier in the day before the crowd gets here.

The weather has been extraordinary - 60s-70s sunny with occasional showers either in the morning or late afternoon. High in the low 80s.

Now here's the thing; no point in having all these to myself. I am issuing an all-are-welcome free passes to EVERY serotta forum pals, past and present, newbies and old farts....just let me know when you are coming, I will have food, accommodation and bike routes ready to go.

This invitation has no expiration date....PLEASE COME! :hello:

I can't wait to cross over using the ferry to the Great Ocean Road and ride there...hopefully sometime soon, when thinpin-pal comes knockin'.

Weisan,

Welcome to Australia- to you and your family. Have you climbed Arthur's Seat yet? Nice climb and good views.

The ferry across the bottom of the Bay is good fun- are you going to try Around the Bay in a Day?- that's coming up soon I think.

You must get over to Adelaide sometime, hopefully with bike-( perhaps one January for the Tour Down Under?)- we have some very nice riding quite close to the City.

What brought you to Rye? I know the Mornington Peninsula reasonably well, my Aunt used to live in Mount Martha, now she lives in Balnarring.

You think its crowded now- wait until January when just about all of Melbourne hits Portsea!

hybrid-pal, thanks for the warm welcome. Yes, fellow forumite thinpin took me up Arthur's seat when I visited in June. It was okay. :D

Around the Bay...somebody was telling me about it today during my ride at Pt Nepean National Park. It sounds interesting, I have to look into it, the registration might already be closed, besides my cycling fitness is good but not great so 200k might pose a challenge.

What brought you to Rye? A new job and family.

Some more new pics from today's ride from Rye to Pt Nepean National Park and back, 1.5 hrs, 70s, sunny...windy, but still a gorgeous day, no complaints.

gentlemen, thanks again for the well-wishes. Thin-pal, when are we going to ride again? The weather here at the peninsular has been outstanding over the last few days.

I swapped out some pictures for new ones.

It's been raining heavily over the last few days, caught a bit of respite this morning and went up Arthur's Seat again. 65 degrees, nice and cool. The climb up this time was...shall we say *easier* because I have more gear ranges in my Taylor than the Peg.

Have you memorized the lyrics to Waltzing Matilda yet?

I have an odd obsession with that tune (probably the same part of my brain that enjoys bluegrass and old American standards).

Love this thread. I lived in Blairgowrie and worked at a restaurant in Sorrento for about 5 months in 1990. The pictures bring it all back in a flood. What a beautiful piece of the world.

I worked at McCarthy's Restaurant. Mary and Simon McCarthy were the proprietors. I stayed in a limestone house in Blairgowrie that sat atop a small hill and from the tower you could see Port Phillip Bay. Surfed quite often at the end of Central Avenue and at the Portsea beach, Quarantines as well right at the tip of the peninsula. Nothing but fond memories except for the shattered eardrum I received when my surfboard cracked me in the skull one day at Central Ave. Couldn't get used to the carrots and beet root on the hamburgers however.
