I just got a pair of vredestien tri comp tubulars and I just noticed the minimum tire press is 130 psi. I normally run around 120 and my wife (who will ride a tri comp as well) is normally around 110 psi. I was always under the impression that you could run a tubular at a lot lower tire press than 130 psi.

Should we just go ahead and ride them at the normal psi or do we pose a risk of flat if we run them below the recommended psi?

Thanks

I ride the same tires at 120-125 with no difficulties! Cheers, PBW

Ya sure that's the minimum and not the max? I run my tubies at about 95 psi(Sprinters) and I'm .1 offa ton. You aren't gonna hurt anything at about 100 psi or so.

130 psi is a lot in the road, in a matter of fact you have more chances to blow them up at higher pressures than in lower ones, pretty much as harder the tubular the harder and faster it gets but at the same time with a little pebble the tubular might say bye bye in 2 secs.

Personally if its too hot outside I never go over 95 in the back, 80 in the front. If normal 100 in both but never more than 105 or 110. If you have a pump with a gauge u just tap them and will sound like empty... that's around 90 psi.

Other thing, it depends of the tubular too, remember a pair of clement Z 210 grams had years ago, no matter how much air you put to them the suckers felt smooth all the time.

I seem to recall high min and max pressures on the Vredestein labels, but it's hard to imagine you couldn't run the same pressure that you like in other tubular tires. If it's a 21c instead of 22 or 23, maybe add a few psi? But not an extra 20 or 30. Unless somebody comes up with some entirely different (yet plausible) story about the Vreds, I'd try your old standby of 110 and see how you do -- maybe a little less in the front tire?
