Does anyone other than Origin 8 currently make a hinged or separate face plate quill stem?

http://www.origin-8.com/?page_id=91&short_code=Ultim-8+Road+Quill+Stem&cl1=STEMS

I have need of such an animal, and would really prefer a 31.8 bar size so that I can use FSA K-force compact wing bars.

The Origin 8 compact 26.0 bars may also work.

http://www.origin-8.com/?page_id=91&short_code=Pro-Lite+Compact&cl1=HANDLEBARS

I have an incoming 3ttt with a hinged faceplate that may also work.

TIA

Jeff

don't think so.

Profile Design makes some open faceplate not so pretty ones:

a pretty damn good solution it this thing I got called the BBB extender:

hard to find for 1 inch headtubes, but you can find it on the Bicycle Hero website. They are in the Far East, but mine got here in less than a week.

You can have it stick up or take out spacers to bring it down too. You can use it with any threadless stem...and the transition is the best looking I have seen.

Looks like Deda is bringing the murex stem back:

Older versions pop up on the bay occasionally. Original version was available in shiny silver, matte silver, and black. Don't know about the new version.

Probably have to get your dealer to custom order though. (But that's the same with Origin8.)

Nitto is making some, but the longest one here is 10cm.

Quill stems are getting a touch expensive..

It might be time to convert to threadless..

SOMA makes a nice 26.0 compact bar if that's what you're looking for, I suspect it's the same bar as Origin 8's. Here's a thread on it.

Never convert to threadless if you have a one inch fork ! !

Quill stems are much more aesthetically pleasing (IMHO). But then again, I'm a troglodyte Luddite. What do I know. ;)

My Nago was just a sexy threadless as threaded you have to admit, and it provides the necessary variety..

You can still find cinelli and 3t hinged stems on ebay. I used one of the dedacciai hinged stems and it was okay but I think cinelli and 3t is nicer.

I bought a couple of NOS Syncros hinged 26.0 quill stems earlier this year on ebay. The seller had quite a few then. I realize the look does not appeal to everyone.

Jeff, i've been using a 3ttt hinged on my ti merckx. Its been rock solid. And classy looking to boot. Try it with a 3ttt giro bar in the same colour.
