realizing that the 11 speed chains/rings,cassetts are thinner, has anyone run an 11 speed crank with a 10 speed chain and cassette?

Yup.

Running a 11sp super record crank with my Record 10sp group. I was able to find the Super Record compact crank cheaper than any 10sp comparable alternative.
Works great - no issues

I would do it, and really in the worst case, just use an 11 speed chain on the bike since the chainrings do actually have "11 speed chain only" printed on them. I have never seen a 10 speed cassette say "10 speed chain only"
Just my thoughts.

Campy rocks!

Sometimes I just open the tool box to look at that 11speed chain tool that only gets used 1 time a year.

The inside dimensions of the chains are the same. The plates are thinner on the 11 speed. Works fine. All 11 works best ;)

Does this mean that I could run an 11sp setup with my Campy 10sp crank?

Yes, you can use the 11 speed chain on 10 speed, but the price of the chain and the chain tool will make you choke a little, so I would not do it unless you have 11 speed cranks like this Post has referenced. The 10 speed chain is quite nice in my opinion, but I have moved over to 11 speed since the day it was available. I could not survive on the flat roads of Florida with only 10 speed now.
Just Kidding, 11 is awesome and what I really like is the shorter faster shift speed, and the comfort of the 11 speed ergo levers.

Yes. On one bike I kept the 10s Record crank and brakes as well as FD. Works very well with 11s shifters, chain, cassette and RD

Installed many since Record/Chorus are 11s only since 2009 but some still want a new(mostly compact) crankm want Record/Chorus but still have a 10s system. Works just fine, no need to do anything to the rings, use a 10s chain, FD, etc..works fine on shimano/sram systems as well.

Thanks for all your replies. I know that this sounds a little crazy, but I am going to run Campy 11sp on my Riv Roadeo with my old Chorus 10sp compact crank with 48-34 chainrings and a 12-29 cassette. Don't tell Grant Petersen. This combination is a great all round combo for me.
