at the end of today's climb, in mph, how fast were they going? and what gear do you think/know Lance is riding in?

I did not see the stage on TV (no TV) but pros will typically go 15-18 mph up the steeper sections and in attacks and sprints will achieve up to 22-25 depending on the gradient. For short periods of time.

Top climbers will leave others speechless.

I don't know what is more impressive in pro riding: top speed on the flat or top speed in the hills. But both are sickening.

I recall Phil Ligget saying that Pantani used a 39x22 quite often in the mountains.
