I know this is a Serotta forum but during my hunt for a Serotta Club Special I found a NOS Schwinn Paramount 50th Anniversary frame and fork hanging on a wall at a LBS. It is #146 out of 500 and has never been built. Here is a link I snagged from a recently ended auction (it sold for $1250). 1988 Schwinn Paramount 50th Anniversary 61cm (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Schwinn-Paramount-50th-Anniversary-Frameset-NOS-57-Gold-/320745214313?pt=Road_Bikes&hash=item4aade79169#ht_8331wt_1185)
The 24k gold plated fork was pretty cool.
The bike shop wouldn't sell it.

Beautiful! And a heck of a buy at the price they got it for.

Too bad it's just going to hang on a wall.

Why would a shop not sell something? Weird. Where was it?

I own two of these beautiful frames/bikes. Bought the first frame NOS from a shop owner north of Houston in 1996. He was holding on to it until he found a 50th Anniversary Campy kit to build it up. After a dozen or more visits and some significant clothing & parts purchases over about a year. I showed up win a $1200 in my pocket and made one last attempt before I moved to SC. He accepted my offer and I quickly dashed to my car with the frame still safely packaged in it's original box with all paperwork before he changed his mind. I promptly built it with the NOS 50th Campy kit I bought in 1988'.
Found the second frame on eBay from a seller in Levenworth, KS. It had some lite shop rash. A pair of wheels had been clamped in the frame but it showed no signs of being built completely. It's built with a mix of 50th anniversary and super record parts sourced from eBay.
They are really great riding bikes even compared to some of the new OS steel frame being built today.

I was visiting Cedar Rapids, IA and found this LBS.

The gold fork had a velvet drawstring bag on it.

Here is an amazing example of a built model. I would say that is a museum quality bike and would be surprised if it ever touches pavement.

This bike hunting is fun. I hope I find a Club Special soon.

One of the few frames I owned that I regret selling. With two kids in college the money meant more than the frame. Someday I'll find another. It'll be MY graduation gift.

The question is, what are the bikes to buy now that will be that awesome in 20 years? That bike is phenomenal.
