I live here and ride these same roads.

It's a very well written story, that tells it like it is.

I was stationed there for a couple years in the early 90's before I rode... truly a unique city and certainly friendly... wouldn't mind a cycling vacation there...

Lived there for 4 years, '88-'92 and thought it was fairly cycling unfriendly until I moved to Alabama and learned what cycling unfriendly really was. Having said that I agree with the article it was great fun cycling in N.O. and actually for a congested city it wasn't that bad. Mandeville, across the lake had some really nice rural roads with rolling hills. No great climbs but some brutal winds especially on the levee.
