the ARX is about half the price (OK, a bit more than half). Am I paying for the bling with the X2 or is there something actually better about it?

-10 degree vs. -6 degree rise may be the most important difference.

Thomson stems may look a little more neutral without the ARX stripe.

I have Thomson stems on lots of bikes, but I'm a -10 degree guy.

$48 vs. $79 net price, close to the same weight, I can't tell if one is a lot stiffer than the other, so if that's important you should ask for impressions of that.

Fancier machining and metal.
3T = AL 2010
Thomson = "Solid one piece 7000 series aluminum extruded billet precision machined by Thomson in our Macon, Georgia factory"

Just nab a used one. Thomson's don't really get scuffed up and <50 for a used one is easy to come by.

i have found the aesthetics of each of those stems to be different. black 3T stems have matte finish and black x2 stems are shiney. so it may depend on how anal you are and what other parts are in the mix.

i have an extra 110mm, -+ 10, thomson x2, black, 140 grams on my electronic digital postal scale = $60 shipped

The Thomson is probably more comparable to the ARX Team, which is 7075.

In the end, are you gonna feel a difference (other than fit)? I'm gonna go with no, unless you go by the name Mark Cavendish.

Thanks. Looking for a 90mm and a 100mm (not sure what size I need).
$50 for a good condition X2? Have not seen good ones go for that but perhaps I'm not looking hard enough.

with a stem that short, i dont think the weight or stiffness will really be that big of a deciding factor, buy whichever one you think looks better imo

Kind of leaning that way. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some quality difference.

Made in the USA by a family run company! Should be a no brainer.
