Beethoven's 6th Symphony. Listening to it right now off the ol' iPod.

Any other contenders?

The Sound track to the film Amelie (very French)

Personally, I thought Yanni (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000000MH/ref=pd_sim_music_5/103-6580604-5527061?v=glance&s=music)'s range of emotions lends some affinity to the cycling psyche. Of course, the immortal Beethoven can't be beat....

Hey that road is on one of my loops. I usually peel off onto Stephen Mather. Great roads in that area especially staying north.

but as long as you asked...

The Doors - "L.A. Woman"

Well, I just got into town about an hour ago
Took a look around, see which way the wind blow
Where the little girls in their Hollywood bungalows

Are you a lucky little lady in the City of Light
Or just another lost angel...City of Night
City of Night, City of Night, City of Night, woo, c'mon

L.A. Woman, L.A. Woman
L.A. Woman Sunday afternoon
L.A. Woman Sunday afternoon
L.A. Woman Sunday afternoon
Drive thru your suburbs
Into your blues, into your blues, yeah
Into your blue-blue Blues
Into your blues, ohh, yeah

I see your hair is burnin'
Hills are filled with fire
If they say I never loved you
You know they are a liar
Drivin' down your freeways
Midnite alleys roam
Cops in cars, the topless bars
Never saw a woman...
So alone, so alone
So alone, so alone

Motel Money Murder Madness
Let's change the mood from glad to sadness

Mr. Mojo Risin', Mr. Mojo Risin'
Mr. Mojo Risin', Mr. Mojo Risin'
Got to keep on risin'
Mr. Mojo Risin', Mr. Mojo Risin'
Mojo Risin', gotta Mojo Risin'
Mr. Mojo Risin', gotta keep on risin'
Risin', risin'
Gone risin', risin'
I'm gone risin', risin'
I gotta risin', risin'
Well, risin', risin'
I gotta, wooo, yeah, risin'
Woah, ohh yeah

Well, I just got into town about an hour ago
Took a look around, see which way the wind blow
Where the little girls in their Hollywood bungalows

Are you a lucky little lady in the City of Light
Or just another lost angel...City of Night
City of Night, City of Night, City of Night, woah, c'mon

L.A. Woman, L.A. Woman
L.A. Woman, your my woman
Little L.A. Woman, Little L.A. Woman
L.A. L.A. Woman Woman
L.A. Woman c'mon

Try and get that out of your head.....

I'm talking specific pieces of music that bring cycling to mind. Here, let me help:

You're in your livingroom reading the Sunday comic section and the radio is on. Then, somewhere from within your subconscious the tempo of the music you're hearing strikes your cycling nerve and you think to yourself, hey, this music would be perfect for cycling movie soundtrack.

Now I appreciate the suggestions you're offering and I agree with all of them (maybe not the Butthole Suffers [sic]), but those are mostly songs that come to mind when you're already perched on the bike trying to catch up to my perfectly muscled a$$. :D

you mean like this....

Bicycle bicycle bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle bicycle bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride my bike
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride it where I like

. . . in iTunes. But I don't listen while I ride--just like to listen to it and think about riding. Just seems too unsafe to actually listen while I ride.

But the best piece of theme music I've heard I haven't been able to find a recording of. The WCP DVD set of the Tour from 2003 had some really neat music that they used as background in a few spots, most particularly during a segment of "Images of the Tour" that was with one of the later stages. It featured a montage of various clips, including some really great aerial shots. It's pretty obviously music from British or French TV where WCP got their feed, but I have not been able to find out who plays it or what the title is, D@MMIT!!

"Nebraska" by Bruce S. - because on a cross country trip we played it ever night at the campsite when we traveled thru the state. Now, any time I hear it...I think of that trip.

See now...you weren't specific. Why didn't you say what you were looking for in the first place?

Background music for video montage covering Lances six TDF wins:

~See me ride out of the sunset
~On your colour TV screen
~Out for all that I can get
~If you know what I mean
~Women to the left of me
~And women to the right
~Ain't got no gun
~Ain't got no knife
~But don't you start no fight

CHORUS:
~'Cause I'm T.N.T. (oi, oi, oi) I'm dynamite
~T.N.T. and I'll win the fight
~T.N.T. I'm a power load
~T.N.T. watch me explode

~I'm dirty, mean and mighty unclean
~I'm a wanted man
~Public enemy number one
~Understand
~So lock up your daughter
~Lock up your wife
~Lock up your back door
~And run for your life
~The man is back in town
~Don't you mess me 'round

CHORUS
~TNT oi, oi, oi
~TNT oi, oi, oi

Watch out for big trucks....

1-2-3-4
Road maps and bra staps
8 tracks and mud flaps
I don't give a damn
Cause I'm a free old man
Pulled it right up
Shoot her the shadey
All that I want
Is silver naked lady
I sink and I swim
Down the road again
I hook; I cook
What you doing tonight
Pulled it right up
Pulled her nice caddie
All that I want
Is silver naked lady
Lets please please please please
Silver naked lady
Road maps and bra staps
8 tracks and mud flaps
Don't give a damn
Cause I'm a free I'm a free I'm a free old man
Pull her right here
Put her nice caddie
All that I want
Is silver naked lady

Goodie Two Shoes.

With the heartbreak open
So much you can't hide
Put on a little makeup makeup
Make sure they get your good side good side

If the words unspoken
Get stuck in your throat
Send a treasure token token
Write it on a pound note pound note

Goody two, goody two, goody goody two shoes
Goody two, goody two, goody goody two shoes

Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Subtle innuendos follow
There must be something inside

We don't follow fashion
That would be a joke
You know we're going to set them set them
So everyone can take note take note

When they saw you kneeling
Crying words that you mean
Opening their eyeballs eyeballs
Pretending that you're Al Green Al Green

Goody two, goody two, goody goody two shoes
Goody two, goody two, goody goody two shoes

Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Subtle innuendos follow
There must be something inside

No one's gonna tell me
What's wrong or what's right
Or tell me who to eat with sleep with
Or that I've won the big fight big fight

Look out or they'll tell you
You're a "Superstar"
Two weeks and you're an all time legend
I think the games have gone much too far

If the words unspoken
Get stuck in your throat
Send a treasure token token
Write it on a pound note pound note

Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Subtle innuendos follow
There must be something inside

Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Subtle innuendos follow
There must be something inside

Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Subtle innuendos follow
There must be something inside

Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?
Don't drink don't smoke - what do you do?

I know that Festina has a bad reputation in the Tour, but I loved the commercials they sponsored prior to pulling sponsorship due to drug scandals on their sponsored team. The music and images captured the high of cycling better than anything I have seen since.
