Fall of 1966 I went to see Michigan State at Penn State with a co-workerwho was a Penn State Alum. All the way from Lancaster to State College I heard how this game was sure to be PSU Coach Rip Engle's 100th victory. When we got near the stadium we started seeing lots of folks in green wearing buttons reading "KILL BUBBA KILL. Rip had to wait a while to get that 100th victory. PSU was a beautiful campus and our whole visit was a classic college football weekend.

Too bad - as a kid I used to be a Colts fan - Unitas, Berry, Mackey, Orr, Moore and 6'7'' Smith - great team - all gentlemen.

I grew up in Canton, Ohio (Pro Football Hall of Fame) and in Junior High I used to caddie during the summer for some cash. One day during the Hall of Fame week I carried double and one of the gentlemen was Bubba Smith. Can't recall the other guy, he was not a player. Needless to say it was almost comical a scrawny kid trying to manhandle two full sets of clubs around the course for a guy the size of Bubba. I remember he was a good tipper though so I didn't mind so much. Sad to here of his passing.

My pal was a Beta Theta Pi alum and their house was fabulous with a bar and a guest suite for visiting alums. We had a few before/after the game but not close to stupordom. Darn near did overdo the ice cream at the ag school ice cream parlor though. :)

Sad to hear. He seemed like he was a real gentleman-never heard anything bad about him-unless you were an opposing QB

RIP Bubba.

I remembered him and Dick Butkus on the Blue Thunder tv show.

RIP Bubba. The old Baltimore Colts are still my favorite football team. I really liked the beer commercials with Bubba and Dick Butkus in their tennis suits (love the easy open cans!).
