I'm new to the whole world of Serotta and am looking eventually to get an older steel bike - maybe a CSL or something similar.
I'm a pretty big guy (230) and like to run 28 tires and even 32's on occasion. What is that biggest tire that the older steel frames and steel forks will fit?
(Sorry if this is a dumb question...)
Thanks,
Pete

Its been asked before and you might find some more answers with a search...

My '96 CSi is comfortable with a 25 Conti in the rear and maybe would fit a 28 but it would be tight. The F1 fork however is limited to a 23 or a short 25. Steel fork would fit bigger. In general I think you'll find these are race oriented bikes and fit race oriented tires. Serotta did make some less racy models (see catalog section) and these might be a better choice for wider tires.

The older steel Serottas with steel forks will fit the Riv roly poly's that are 27. Nothing bigger will fit in the rear stays.

Thanks. That pretty much answers my question.

I had a Proton with a 28c GP 4Season loose, so tried it on my Atlanta. Looks like plenty of clearance at the rear. The Atlanta flat crown fork probably has more clearance than any other Serotta fork. I didn't put the front on as I figured there would be no issue there.
