The Davis Phinney Foundation Raffle - win serial #000001 of new model valued at over $10,000

Why have a 6 digit serial number on a model valued at over $10,000? What are the projected sales numbers for this thing?? What does Ford and GM think about this??? If they do use those digits on the far left, I think the open house should be free (including airfare, lodging, food and drinks - lots of drinks) next year.

As for it being serial #1, I've seen it before. In fact, I've sold Serotta serial #1 four times so far. With each new model they start at #1, so when the very first Legend Ti showed up at my shop years ago I sold it. This year one of my customers from the past brought his old CRL in for a repaint. He said "you remember selling me this?" and he turns it over and sure enough, it's #1. The last one was one of their experimental models which they've agreed to make for us 'cause we're so annoying when we don't get what we want. My bike is one of them - serial#3 (top tube sloped in the wrong direction, stove pipe for a down tube...), but I also sold the first of that model as well.

The 4th is something that Serotta probably wants to forget about. It was a mountain bike frame, or at least most of a mountain bike frame, sold under another name with only 1 Serotta decal...

Why have a 6 digit serial number...

The "serial" portions of all of Serotta's serial numbers consist of five digits, regardless of how many sales are projected. (They just don't put all of the preceding zeroes on the frame itself.) The six digits is probably just a typo, as Serotta.com currently says "The raffle is for serial #00001 of an all-new limited production 2006 model."

Someone needs to explain this term to me, 'cause I don't get it.

The important thing to keep in mind here is that this is an opportunity to raise $100,000 for the Davis Phinney Foundation. There is a link on the Serotta webpage, as well as here Serotta Raffle (http://davisphinneyfoundation.com/fundraising/raffle.html) .

Regardles of how many zeroes appear before the one, you will be supporting a great cause and potentially winning a bike that is sure to put one of these :D on your face for many rides to come.

Too many zeros here, too few there, it all works out in the end...
