I have a Thule Spirit cargo box that has some scratches on the top of it...think roof top bike mount and garage ceiling scenario (was not me who did it  ).

It has a gloss black finish, and I would like to try an polish out the scratches...no cracks or structural damage, just cosmetic. It is made of ABS plastic.

I found some Mothers Plastic Polish, but am wondering if there might be something better or more appropriate.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I've used McGuiar's Black Magic to treat black plastic car parts like truck mirrors. It's not abrasive so I won't remove scratches but it shines the plastic nicely. If the scratches are deep, maybe a fine file to smooth first, then 400 grit, then polishing compound. Then shine up with McGuiar's.

If the scratches are too deep you may weaken the plastic so you may just want to fill the scratches, maybe with ABS cement. Then smooth.
