Building my mountain wheelset and am in search of some nice skewers to pair with my King hubs.

I have Mavic ti skewers on my road bike, but am just seeking recommendations.

PS: Yeah, it's kind of trivial, but humor me.

I have been thinking exactly the same thing. I have a beautiful new set if King R45 hubs, with Mavic Open Pro rims, silver all around. But what skewers?

Shimano skewers are the answer to life's problems. Get some XTR skewers and never think about them again.

...Those old American Classic skewers that had the lever that looked like a short allen key.

Keep in mind they're for a mountain bike. I need something closed cam, ideally.

I was going to say Dura Ace, but since it's a mountain bike... XTR.

I would say salsa if it is sram build otherwise go with shimano xtr if it is a shimano build.

Screw that...get a set of Hadley thru bolts and be done with it. I have a pair of Hope skewers and I'm not sold on them. You can get the Hadley's in 9mm front and 10mm rear and on the plus side they are pretty light.

I like the KCNC skewers. I ended up buying the stainless steel ones.

Those KCNC skewers are awesome looking.

New direction: closed or open cam skewers on mountain bikes?

On a mountain bike, I am *done* with open-cam.... they all feel like crap over time and use.

I vote XTR, DT RWS, or thru-bolt designs.

I agree but unfortunately, you can't use them with the front and the rear will require an axle swap. If the OP is open to an axle swap, the Fun Bolts rock (for the rear) but the QR fronts can only be used with regular 5mm skewers or 15mm axle (and fork) swap.

XT, best bang for the buck. XTR or Salsa if you need to lighten your wallet. Mountain bike components get scratched if you actually ride trails, forget the expensive CNC'ed chi chi stuff.
