View Full Version : SPD Pedals in Carry On Luggage?

Has anyone successfully transported SPD pedals and shoes in carry on luggage?

I hate checking bags, and I'm wondering if the TSA folks would allow the pedals and shoes through the screening process in carry on luggage?

Joys of air travel...

Thanks

I have done it with no trouble. It's the chain saws and cans full of gasoline they don't like.

I tried to bring a full groupset in my carry on in 2004 or so - they asked me to check it. The guidelines do say no tools, iirc, so there's probably some judgment involved in this.

For the record, I was trying to build a bike up back home in Singapore. The groupset was ridiculously cheap, but the seller went out of business.

I carry Look Keos all the time when I travel with my bike (if they lose the bike I still have the pedals to rent with).

I have never had an issue.

+1 on the tools. They are a no-no.

Shoes and Pedals were OK, but the pedal wrench not so much.

For some reason I always get popped for my Speedplays. They always take them to or call over a supervisor.

Do they usually end up letting you through with them after the supervisor sees them?

My husband and I travel like a flippin' Radio Shack. . .laptop, two PDAs, chargers, earphones, iPod, electrical adaptors, etc. What do we get in trouble for? Yogurt. Twice. I don't worry about pedals. Just have to remember to ditch the yogurt. Crazy world we live in.

Funny!

2.8 Million butt-in-seat miles on Delta and the first time I've been stumped.

Carried, live fish, live crabs  , electronic equipment, strange vegetables, wine, duck parts  , amongst other things...but never pedals.

No yogurt yet!

Pedals shouldn't be an issue once the TSA team figures out what they are. I've travelled with Time ATAC pedals and shoes several times, and even my rather formidable pedal wrench made it through screening...granted Bradley International isn't LAX or Kennedy

No problems for me on many trips taking shoes and SPD-L pedals in carry on luggage.

I've been stopped more than once at LGA and EWR, once at ORD, and I always seem to have to check them flying in and out of Heathrow.

Cross hair gel off the list as well. I just lost a new tube moments ago. No one batted an eye at my Speedplay's. Almost like they knew what they were.

I travel with crazy stuff for work (medical device stuff) and I just tell the bag screener and they just let me go. I would not worry one bit about SPDS.
