Can merino wool lose its odor eating properties?

I have a Smartwool t-shirt and can wear it for 5 days straight before it starts to smell a little funky. I noticed lately it starts to smell only after 3 days. No heat wave going on here so that's not contributing to it.

I've had it for about a year now. Could it be just getting old or maybe washing it with liquid detergent causing this?

restored if treated improperly. The 'normal' detergent that you use strips the wool of its oils. There is a lanolin based detergent that you could google that helps manage and restore your wool items.
