whoa those shifters are weird... record 10 ultra graphics on on the new style shifter, never seen that before. Never seen that style Merlin decal either, but I'm no expert.

Corona is not the OC, the seller has branched out. That's the "inland empire", and contrary to my post on your other thread, I won't be able to check it out, way off the beaten path for me and my job (have an office in OC, thought I might take a detour). Those decals aren't official Merlin, at least not that I've seen. If anything I'd guess the seller tried sprucing things up or personalizing. I haven't seen counterfeit shifters before, not to say it's not possible. My guess is he just tried making things look new. I'd pay $1500 max, if that, given the circumstances...with a picture of the bottom bracket to help verify it's a Merlin.

Doubt it will work out for you, my best instincts for myself would be to pass...but if you're committed to trying and make it happen I wish you the best of luck!

I saw this post on CL as well. Corona is not really Orange County at all, it's more like Arizona :) I also would pass on this one, decals don't look right.

Thanks!

I have seen these decals before from my buddy who was a Merlin rep back in the late 1980's and early 90's. Not a bad deal.

If you want Merlin decals, shoot me a PM and I'll send you a set for $20.

They are new shape, from 2009+ levers. If they are 10s, probably Centaur.

If they are Centaur why does it say Record on them? That's the sketchy part..that's all I am saying.

Peter,

Have you heard of Basso? There is one here locally with full Campy Super Record and it looks to be in good condition. Asking price is $1200..what do you think?

This looks great too. NOS Gios..I have heard a bit about them but it's my perfect size. I am wondering about the spacing though. 126.5? Would this not take wheels that fit my newer bike?

Just for reference, you could buy a new Gios Compact Pro with a chrome fork for $830 in 2003. They were sold for a number of years and didn't change much, but the later ones had Dedacciai tubing. My opinion is that you could do much better on price on a used one, but you may not find another NOS one in your size. The ususal tradeoff, pristine new vs. used with some minor flaws for a lot less money.

that Gios is over priced. you can find better deals on newer, lighter tubesets. check out www.gvhbikes.com. you can get the rear spacing fixed by a local frame builder it's not a big deal.
