drug in his system is a common diuretic that for athletes is used to conceal steroids. Well, sadly it is not unexpected.

I'm getting so sick and tired of the dopng news...did the biological passport find anything strange prior to this positive? That will be interesting to see

Shocking, just shocking!

A rider in the TDF on dope. Who would have thought it!

The biological passport is for tracking blood values, to detect blood manipulation. Kolobnev's positive test was for a diuretic used as a steroid masking agent. Since neither steroids nor this diuretic is used in blood manipulation, the odds are the biological passport wouldn't have detected it.

as far as I am concerned, if you are keeping up with the peleton in the 21st century TDF, you are doping...

The only time you are doing something illegal is when you get caught.

He passed hundreds of tests before. He is clean. It has to be a French setup.

word on the street is that he's the most tested athlete ever with the last name kolobnev. it has to be a false positive.

yep... i meant i'm wondering if the biological passport caught any evidence of doping, as he was doping, but used the diuretic to cover it up.... all the talk i've seen now is on microdosing and how that wont necessarily show up in a passport... will be interested to see the B sample and any other info once it comes out...

i love how he says he's innocent.. has anyone actually just fessed up upon testing positive?

This diuretic has been found in the samples of other professional cyclists in the recent past, and some of them were able to successfully argue that the trace was due to contamination or prescribed medication. Wait and see.
