From Cyclingnews-" AG2R instead requested that they be stiffened up. As a result, the bladed and butted stainless steel spokes have been replaced with straight-gauge ones, the rear wheels are laced two-cross on both sides, and the rear wheels are also tied-and-soldered to not only lend a firmer feel but keep bits of metal from flying around in the event of a broken spoke or sheared nipple after a crash.
AG2R-La Mondiale's latest Reynolds rear wheels are custom built with straight-gauge spokes in a two-cross pattern for extra stiffness."
Ahh, I feel all warm inside..altho I think they are probably butted spokes and i would have laced them outside pulling/heads-in for the pullng spokes.

Of course, if they really wanted to be trick, they would have slotted the spoke holes in the flange and used tradtional bladed spokes. For example, DT New Aero spokes (with a 3.3mm x 1.1mm cross section) have the same cross sectional area, and build up a wheel just as stiff as straight gauge round spokes.
