"A Victorian couple suffering muscle pains, fevers and vomiting discovered their bodies were infested with tiny worms eating through their tissue.

The couple ingested the gnathostomiasis larvae after eating a fish they caught in a river while on a Western Australian holiday.

It is the first time this parasite, which is more common in Thailand and China, has affected a person in Australia.

The couple suffered abdominal pains and rashes, with the husband even reporting that he could feel something moving under his skin.

The worms are 1-3mm long, have sharp teeth and are able to eat through tissues."

I love Big George - the guy works and works and works. He can keep his jeans, but the guy's a legend. I'm still pissed Garmin attacked him in 2009 to keep him out of yellow.

But man, that's gross.

. . . has some big veins!

surprised, though, that the calf muscle isn't bigger. Maybe it's the photo angle . . .

Bad varicose veins. Not normal but usually not more than a cosmetic issue. Sometimes will cause some pain and swelling. They can be surgically or otherwise managed. They are likely more prominent due to low body fat. Maybe he should pedal a recumbant to keep the legs elevated, which would also make them less noticeable. Or wear tights. Wonder if they affect his aerodynamics.

He's had it for years-not good. I wouldn't be surprised if he has them removed at some point.

Whoa! So, I have to ask. Do the track guys get legs like that "naturally"?

Certainly they don't ride more miles than the road guys, so it's the specific kind of training and exercises they do?

...and lots of short intervals on the track in large-ish gears

I stood next to Nelson Vails when I was about 128lbs. Legs bigger than my waist.

And he was so much more than a track rider, he was a road champ too.
