Cavendish and Hushovd declassified in the intermediate sprint?
Would that have happened to a French sprinter?

It's a left hand bend and Thor tries to take the wheel of the second rider from Cavendish, and Cav doesn't allow him in. End of story. Where's the issue? What is there to be punished? It's a joke, and makes the TdF look very 'small'.

Romain Feillu is a good French sprinter. Seven wins this year. He was second to Farrar Monday and pissed off Cavendish. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/othersports/article-2011185/TOUR-DE-FRANCE-2011-Mark-Cavendish-hits-losing-Tyler-Farrar.html) .

What was Cav supposed to do? Let Hushovd push him into the gutter?

The lead guys were moving left with the turn, Hushoved tried to move with them and push Cav over and out (toward the gutter) and take the spot. Cav protected his line and himself. Sprint tactics 101.

Dumb call in a pro race IMO.

Officials have been pretty aggressive the last few years calling headbutts.

Its like a double technical in the NBA. It wasn't a huge issue, but I think the intent was to prevent that kind of behavior from escalating to something serious happening further down the line.

Did Feillu get penalized today for motorpacing (and not even trying to hide it)?

Haha, most likely.

If you didn't catch the coverage, he was tucked up a foot behind the bumper, signaling through the back window to his team car driver to speed up.

...but he's French and Cavendish doesn't like him, so he probably received the ride of the day award  .
