I'll be going to Europe for 10 days in July, and I plan to bring my bike. Can anyone suggest a good carrying case (or, alternatively, a reliable and relatively cheap way of shipping it there?). Thanks

Double carboard bicycle box. Use 3/8 threaded rod with fender washers and nuts to brace the fork.

I have used there inexpensive box and it stands up very well. Cost is around $120, not alot to protect a nice bike. Has the advantage of not having to screw with tape and packing material.

Check with your local club to see if they have a group case that you could "borrow" (mine does--you just have to let them hold a deposit in the amount it would take to replace it should you "forget" to return it to them).

Sent you a private message about one I am selling. Not trying to be pushy at all. But it might work for u.
If not, that's cool too.

Also some LBS have travel cases they rent out for situations such as yours.
