Does anyone here use a Timbuk2 Option backpack? I'm looking for a backpack that'll fit a 17" Macbook, but also not anything that it too big/bulky. The Option looks like what I'm after as far as overall size requirements are concerned.

thanks...

I would get a Baileyworks Road Runner instead.

I just got a Mission Workshop Vandal, which I'm convinced is the best pack ever. It's nice and svelte until you need to carry a LOT.

The Bailey Works bags are awesome. I love mine. Expensive but well worth it.

I really like my Vandal, too. I've had it for over a year now, and it's holding up great despite my abuse. The usual load includes clothes, shoes, lunch, laptop, notebook and tons of small items. I occasionally load it up with groceries on the way home, too. It has proven itself entirely waterproof during many rain-soaked commutes. The only downside is co-workers referring to me as an astronaut (the silver one does kind of look like a jetpack).

Thanks for the replies. The Bailey bag will not hold my laptop. They confirmed this over the phone.
The Vandal looks pretty cool, but I don't need anything that big, yet. I went ahead and ordered the Option pack and will post my thoughts once it arrives.

Check out the SealLine Urban Backpack http://robonza.blogspot.com/2009/11/review-sealline-urban-backpack.html

Or the Sealline Urban Shoulder bag:

They both fit a 15" macbook pro, with room to spare.

I like that they are no joke waterproof packs.

I would recommend either of the Velo Transit backpacks. Their's are the most comfortable bags I've used and I've owned a lot of bags (even tried to make my own for a while).

That's funny. I spoke to someone there on the phone yesterday, asked if any of their backpacks would fit a 17" Macbook, and was told no. Thanked them, hung up, and called and ordered the Option from Timbuk2.

i've been using chrome bags for years now, mostly because i found them substantially more weatherproof than my former timbuk2, and waaaaay more comfortable than any human-interface bag (non-pannier) from ortlieb. i see you've already ordered your bag, so best of luck. but chrome is a pretty great option and i'd highly recommend their gear. i have the ranchero backpack and it takes my 17" powerbook plus room to spare. i think the dually also took my laptop but not much more, in case you're going for ultra slim. they also have laptop specific bags and their craftsmanship is excellent. give'r. and way to go on commuting on two wheels!

FYI, I have the smaller version of the Vandal, the "Rambler". I use it for everything including school, commuting, traveling, camping, etc.

The Rambler is the perfect size for everyday use, but can expand for when you really need it.
