Seat tube (A) = 62 cm (C-C), 63.5 cm (C-T)

Top tube (B) = 58.8 cm (C-C)

Head tube (D) = 19 cm

For sale on this auction is a very rare 1989 Eddy Merckx Hitachi team issue frameset.


Both frame and fork are in good to very good condition. The paint shows a couple of small paint chips, scuff mark and scratches. The chrome is in very good condition, but does show some minor pitting. No dents or anything alike.


Frame tubing is super lightweight Reynolds 653. This tubeset was only used by Merckx for one year on the Century model and on team issue bikes, like this one.


Brev Campagnolo rear dropouts. 126 mm rear spacing (can easily be bent out to 130mm). Bottom bracket threading is Italian. The left side of the bottom bracket is stamped with 'B'. The right side is stamped with 'B 1256'.

That seller always have good stuff, i know another guy in Netherlands also that seels good stuff also, almost all the time ex team bikes.

i am definitely going to watch this auction.
should probably spend my money on a new camera lens, but its hard to turn down a chance at a Merckx team frame!

I've always loved the Team Hitachi colours, I have never experienced Reynolds 653, what is a comparable tubeset from Columbus? SL?

If it were my size, I would definitely be in the bidding war for it. I think it would look fantastic with an all black Centaur group on it...

that is a sweet color combo, anyone know what geometry this is? seat tube angle specifically?

I hate to piss on everyone's parade but that is a cheap generic replacement fork. The original forks had around 50mm of rake and that one is probably 43-45mm at best.

Where is the original ? Crash perhaps ?

Still a very nice looking frame, though.

I rode a similiar-sized Eddy made from SPX tubing and it was a tank. Handled nice, but was too stiff for longer rides (for me).
