I use a garment bag and turn the short inside out. I am getting lint and pills on the fabric and cham. I air dry my shorts on a hanger.
Should I was by hand ? Wash the shorts alone? or just not wear shorts

My wife does it. I don't question these things. :)

my washing machine has a "hand wash" cycle, which is what i use, then line dry. i also use the special detergent that does not have any dyes or fragrances in it. never have any damage of any kind to my kit. also, dont put anything in the same load that has any metal zippers or other abrasive stuff on it.

Ditto, but I do put all my bike clothes in a mesh "garment/sweater" bag, and sometimes add a bit of baking soda

I don't take any special care with mine. Wash with cold water, dry on low or medium heat. but that is the same as I wash all my clothes. (except sheets and towels I use high heat drying)

I look at shorts like I do tires, they're a consumable.

Same. Use Woolite.

Inside out, delicate cycle, cold/cold water. I put my gloves in garment bag to prevent problems with the velcro. Air dry on hangers.

Trashed two Assos bibs in the machine. Just hand washing for me. In fact I hand wash all my kit. Last longer.

Easy answer. Just wash them in the shower.

Yeah, I Woolite in the shower.

Pills are usually indicative of a poor choice of materials though, not necessarily your care regiment.

I guess I am glad to know that most people are much more disciplined than I am about washing. I have a lot of cycling clothing, so maybe I am not as concerned as some with them wearing out. I have very nice bib-shorts, but they are all in the $100-200 range. GBW, PI, Castelli, Sugoi mostly. No Assos or any other $250 type shorts.

Therefore, I wash them COLD on normal cycle, with normal detergent, usually with other cycling clothes, but not always limited to that. Then I line dry.

If all I had was the really good stuff, I probably would turn them inside-out and put in a bag and wash on "delicates".

I use cheap ????. Voler mostly. Wash on perm press dry on medium. Repeat as necessary.

I'm another user of mostly cheap bibs (lately, the Nalini 6-panels from Probikekit.com). Nothing special for the washing -- cold water on the regular cycle, then hang to dry....

Keep a bucket in the bathroom, throw used cyling stuff in with a squirt of detergent. Fill with cold water before getting into shower, swish around.
Rinse stuff out after shower, hang on shower rod to dry.
Kinda primitive, but have done it this way for eons.

Toss em in washer... wait... toss em in dryer... wait ...

Toss em in closet.

Machine wash on regular using cold/warm. Don’t bother with Delicate, Handwash Casual, or Handwash Delicate cycles which should be gentler. Hang in laundry room to air dry. I don’t own expensive shorts and they seem to wear out from riding, not washing, so I don’t give it much thought.

When cycling during longer camping trips I place in dryer on low heat to remove most of the moisture and then hang to finish drying.

Washing machine on "gentle" and cold water... dry on a hanger.

Same here, with a 30-45 min soak halfway through the first agitate cycle.

I toss all my cycling stuff in at the same time, jerseys, shorts, socks, gloves, etc. I also add some Borax laundry booster to help on the chemistry side.

I toss the whole kit in the bathroom sink with warm water and soap, then rince out and hang dry in the shower.

Exactly, except some times I'll hang them out on the deck. Jerseys on a hanger and bibs over the back of a chair mesh chair...but not on a hanger by the straps.

Mix in a couple of rocks and you have a laundromat my favorite is Pinky's in Canada

Godfrey,

Here is what I would use if I lived in Melgaco, Portugal. Moments before I snapped this picture some older women were doing their wash by rubbing it on the sloping stone sections:

Either way it's an expensive drying rack.

I guess I don't take "proper" care of my cycling garments...

Everything is washed as I do the rest of my clothes: regular/warm and machine dried on whatever the hottest setting is.

Never had any issues with any of my capo / rapha / voler stuff...

I just throw my shorts (inside out) in with my regular laundry using mrs.meyers (earth friendly, bio-degradable, gentle on fabrics, blah blah blah) detergent. sometimes i'll throw them in the dryer with the rest of the load or sometimes i'll just hang dry.

Was them all together in a separate load, inside-out, on the gentle setting. Then air dry.

But I'm also a lazy person and will wait till I've gone through all my shorts before running them through the laundry.

Especially good for getting the funk out of cycling/workout gear, especially those that use modern wicking fabrics. I have had some workout stuff that just smelled gross, even after washing, and this is the ticket!

I like the WIN detergent too, but it seems to be no longer available. It's been "out of stock" on their website for months maybe even the better part of a year. Not sure what's up with them, maybe out of business? Too bad.

That is strange....I have purchased it at Dicks Sporting goods and Sports Authority recently. Hopefully a distro issue, not out of business. It seems to sell pretty well.

Good to know. They just opened a Dick's near here. I'll check it out to see if they have it. I've been using this Sportwash stuff, but I don't like it as much.

Generally use cold water, gentle cycle and extra rinse, then hang to dry indoors. When I travel, if the motel has them, I've used commercial laudromat-style washers with only water temp settings on cold then put them in the dryer with no temp settings - along with all my regular laundry. Everthing has always survived.
