OK, it's time for a new chain and I'm noticing that the chain rings are pretty worn too. I could stick to DA rings but I've been looking around a bit and noticing a few other options. Does anyone have any experience with:
TA
FSA
Salsa
others?

I'll probably stick with 53x39, or maybe go 54x39.

Thank you,

William

I put TAs on the touring bike last year and they are great.

Then again, I use friction shifting on the front rings with the touring bike, so what the heck do I know?

You have a DA 9 drivetrain? Stick with DA 9 then. Otherwise tell us what you are riding. 54 with an 11 is pretty big. 54 with a 12 can make sense. - Matt

Stick with DA.

Don't know about the other TA rings, but TA Hegoa's are not very good. Not enough material, hence their light weight but way to flexy when shifting under load.

Have you seen this boy? King Kong is smaller! Godzilla is smaller! BBD's collection of ugly cycling jerseys is smaller!

Big Leg Willie uses a 54 on his fixie. He don't need no stinkin' small rings.

I've had some Salsa rings in the past. I consider them "budget" rings...they are loud and clunky.

Look at the Stronglight CT2 rings. They are 7075 Al with a ceramic/teflon coating, sorta like Record for less $$. I replaced my crappy stamped Veloce rings with the Stronglights and I've been very happy with them. They are light, quiet, look cool, and shift very nicely. They make 'em in 130 too. I'm sure TA are nice too, but I've never tried them.
