View Full Version : Campy shifter question

I would like a campy group for an upcoming build. Alloy is a must, I'm not a purist, but this frame will need alloy.

I guess I could start the arduous and expensive process of chasing down a 10 speed chorus alloy group, but its always so hard to find the shifters.

Are there any options that allow the replacement of the lever itself on a carbon version of the shifter?

why not just get athena or veloce shifters? they're powershift, but i think people make a bigger deal of that then it really is.

excuse my ignorance, but what is powershift?

powershift is the new shifter internal design for campy shifters Athena level down. basically the mechanism only allows one downshift per thumb button push, as opposed to multiple shifts available on chorus and record shifters. really not too big of a deal in my opinion.

i like the new lever hood design a lot, and if i needed alloy levers for a build i would not hesitate to go to athena.

Thanks for the explanation. That might be an option.

is the bike going to be ridden or is it for photographic/show purposes?

It will most certainly be ridden, but it is a Weigle and I ain't hangin any carbon stuff on it.

I can see both sides. If you have extra money and/or need parts, make it like you want it. If you have parts around and end up having a mix-a-match of parts just to ride it, it's fine too.

also, from what i can tell, the levers for the shifters are just held in by pressed pins, i can't see why you couldnt press the pin out and install an alloy blade into a chorus or record body, the blade shape is exactly the same. no clue whether you can buy just the blades though.

again, if you have to buy new shifters anyway, i would just go athena (or veloce if you need 10-sp)

I've seen the assembly and lever sold separately for Chorus and Record, but not for Athena alloy (but it's probably out there).

It begs for Di2. Maybe you could charge the battery off the front Dyno hub during the daylight.

Replacement blades are almost as expensive as a set of shifters and getting harder to find. Try to find NOS or nice condition older Centaur. They are excellent.

Just saw this (http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bik/2388913443.html) on the local CL and thought I'd pass it on seeing as I don't have a want/need for it (yet).

At first, I didn't know whether or not you were trying to be funny or an arse, thank you for your clarification. I am surprised to see you leading the charge, normally you follow your leader.

Velomine has 2009/10 alloy Centaur levers still in stock. Probably one of the last places to have them. Since Campy dumbed down their new Veloce/Centaur/Athena ergos with powershift, these are your only new alternative if you want to dump multiple cogs with an alloy blade.

you can also get them here (http://www.velo-motion.com/index.php?cat=c21_Ergopower-STI.html)

they do not like to ship to the united states, however. i could send you from switzerland, if you want to buy from this outlet.

just let me know...

U can get centaur 10 carbon ultrashift like for 200 bucks or so.

Athena is all 11 now, have no idea if at some point they made athena 10. Maybe somebody knows.

I believe maximus got a set of campy shifters centaur 10 in silver. PM him.

Yes it is, I scooped up 2 sets a bit earlier from them. I will tuck them away for future reenactment vehicles :)

... except when it was 8spd and 9spd.
