The news is just full of doping revelations and the corruption of sport governing body officials.

Diego Maradona says Argentina players took banned drugs before a qualifying match for the 1994 World Cup.

He accuses FIFA vice president Julio Grondona, the head of Argentina's Football Association, of being in on the scheme.

Perhaps Grondona should go and work for the UCI.

Thanks.

Soccer has problems, but doping ranks somewhere behind the corruption, match-fixing, violence and racism.

Soccer players seem to get busted for recreational drugs far more often than for PED's.

Maradona failed tests both for cocaine and ephedrine (at the '94 World Cup, famously). The story about the WC team taking banned supplements rings true, but nobody cares. The Champions League winning Juve side survived similar stories without repercussions.

To say that Maradona is prone to capricious pronouncements and erratic behavior would be a gross understatement. He makes Mario Cipollini look like the Dalai Lama.

The biggest difference is money...

FIFA is to the UCI what Formula One is to the Akron Sports car club.

Operation Puerto blew cycling to pieces but hid in the corner and sucked it's thumb when it came to FIFA.

Maradona is a notch above Tyler, which is to say he's not the mold forming bellow the barrel. But much like Tyler, he's no place near credible and relevant enough to be of any value at all to anyone but the media...
