Just did a bunch of tune ups on Seven and Serotta Ti bikes. It is such a pleasure to work on a bike that doesn't have tubes that will be crushed by front derailleur clamps, hangers that are always aligned and a finish that you can touch up to new in just a few minutes.

Love 'em. I've got a Merlin EL and a Litespeed Basso.

Me with my McMahon at the top of Sonora Pass. The McMahon is in its nearly original configuration with DA 7400 group and DA/Open CD wheels complete with a 53/39 crank and 13/26 cassette. It made the 26% grade portion of the climb challenging to say the least. This year the bike will be sporting a DA 7800 group complete with compact crank and 12-28 cassette. The frame is at Bilenky getting coupled as we speak.

Cheers,

CaptStash....

Looks great Bob, have you been out on it a second time. Went out today for 5 hours on the Ti over a lot of bad roads and was not beat up at all by the frame. My last ride was carbon and would leave me crippled over the same ride (oh yea, same wheels and saddle).

My sweet Litespeed Icon.

have owned several Ti bikes over the years, these were the most recent

1) Seven mudhoney for the development team, custom geo, custom paint with decals that were only offered to the team. Sold it after the first season b/c I also had a speedvagen cross...terrible decision; I'd buy it back in a heartbeat if I could.

2) Current team bike--axiom S, straight guage Ti, BB30, full custom. Stiffest Ti bike that I've owned in terms of responsiveness from the drivetrain.

Seven are masters of Ti. On par with Serotta IMO.

06-01-2011, 07:42 AM
Mostly painted, for lower profile. Masked Ti bits include the logo and dropouts. With empty bottles and bags everything you see here fits in the standard S&S box and under the airline weight limit

Normally I don't like the way carbon/alum clinchers look but for some reason it works and it looks really good.

I definitely need a ti bike. Anyone got an Indy Fab ti crown jewel in a 56cm they want to part with? :hello:

Thanks RW for posting this for me and introducing me to this forum slightly over a year ago.
The frame, forks and many of the components on this bike came through
this forum. Everyone that I've dealt with on this forum have been honest, fair, and very patient to an old man who just fell in love with bicycles in the last few years.

The new ride (not quite 500 miles). Lynskey R220 - my first Ti bike (along with the 14 year vet she replaced). Love the ride - very comfortable.

Frame/fork from CL (bought on basis of photos), wheels from CL (Velocity Fusion rims with Record/Chorus hubs and Sapim CX Ray spokes), groupset and seatpost from Shiny Bikes (Campy Veloce brakes, Campy Chorus brifters, Campy Athena 11 everything else, Tifosi CF post), bars/stem/saddle/mirror/bottle holders/pump and build from LBS. All told - about $2500 for a dream bike - thanks to DW letting me get a new ride about 3 years early for my 50yo B-day bike (although I think I earned it with 14 years on the Bianchi - which I loved dearly).

Geo.

Here's my FORM Revel Ti frame with EDGE fork. It's a beautiful bike and the welds are a thing of beauty. I just finished cleaning it and I'm about to put SRAM RED on her with ENVE bars, ENVE stem/seat post, and EDGE 1.45 carbon clinchers. I build a couple of bikes a year to lend out for charity rides around the country, and I want the rides to really appreciate having this bike for a few weeks and then the century ride.

I can't read the words on the seat topper - is that proprietary, and what's the setback?

I made the seat top out of titanium, it's not really proprietary or anything, it was our first prototype. The setback is 20mm. We are now making a more advanced version for our production bikes. ENVE supplies the innards for our toppers and ti seatposts.

Titanium rules as a framebuilding material. I have always had a soft spot for the material since I started working with it back in the Merlin (Cambridge, Mass) days.

So many nice bikes in this thread! Keep 'em coming!

Updated my Ti Planet Cross this weekend with TRP's new CX8.4 brakes and Gore sealed cables. Compared to the EuroX brakes I was previously using, the CX8.4 has less pad clearance (~1-1.5mm) and requires more lever throw (I'm < 1cm from bottoming out when the brakes are fully engaged), but the stopping power is infinitely better. No more cable hanger or straddle carrier/cables to deal with either. I'm happy. :) As for the Gore cables, my old cables were rusting/corroding after almost two years of all-weather use, so it was time. I think she's ready for winter commuting!

This bike is f*ckin' awesome. Seriously, is anything more versatile than a Ti cross bike?

This picture was taken in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The background are the hills surrounding the Science Park where a high percentage of the world's IC chips are made. About 30 minutes away, there are mountain climbs that go up to 2,300m above sea level. Most people don't know that it is a bike heaven since they only spend time in the concrete factories and offices (sigh).

Pictures of the highest road in Taiwan at 3,275m elevation ( 10,744 ft). The climb goes for 55km in nice, paved roads. The only struggle is with some of the larger produce trucks that come down from the mountain. Enjoy the pictures.

More great pictures! sheesh, you guys should be shooting for the bike companies. We need less stock photo style photos of bikes on websites and more photos like these that have color and life to 'em. They elicit soul, rather than making you feel like you're looking at marketing driven, overly photo-shopped ad copy that only draws attention to features and gadgets (rather than the bike as a whole and the experience of ownership as an end to itself). Obviously nice photo kit used here...

Very nice bike! Question on the Wound Up fork; is that the 'commuter/light touring' fork? I see you're running 57mm reach brake w/ the pads at the bottom limit. Or is that a custom order job? Is there clearance for tires up to 700x30c w/o fenders? need to know to order the right one.
TIA

zetroc

Thanks! I'm not sure if the fork is an off the shelf model - Steve Hampsten could tell you. The tires are 28mm Riv Rolly Polys, and are no problem at all with this fork and with these brakes (Shimano 57s.) There's definitely room for 30s and maybe even 33s without fenders.

Took delivery about a week ago. Here are the specifics:

1) FSA Compact Bars
2) Black Handlebra sport tape with orange stitching
3) Orange Purely Custom bar end caps
4) Chris King head set with top cap and spacers anodized Molteni Orange
5) Holland Stem
6) Mike Lopez carbon fork
7) Fizik Seatpost
8) Regal Saddle
9) Dt Swiss 415 rims/240s hubs, 4000s tires
10) Ultegra Di 2 drive train, compact with 11-32 cassette and spare wheel with 11-28 (I have knee issues)

I have ridden a hundred miles or so and love how smooth the bike is. As importantly, the experience with Bill Holland, Cody, and Charles exceeded my expectations: exemplary communication, professionalism in the fit and design process, and I got the look and ride I wanted when I started this process.

Please explain why either of these would make this ride wonky at speed downhill...

Looks to be about 4cm of spacers and about a 10* rise stem both of which might add a little flex to the front end but i think probably acceptable overall with no real detriment to the ride. BTW - I ride w/ 4cm of spacers and a 6-8* rise stem - love it.

Aaron, your bike looks okay but you should level your saddle a bit, raise the seat post a tad, drop the stem an inch or so, change the tires to what I ride and line up the label with the valve stem, slide your levers down the bars and angle them down a bit, remove the lights and water bottles, center the saddle on the seatpost, line your crank arm parallel to the chain stay...actually I think you should just post a picture of my bike instead of yours.

You forgot that I should also perfectly match and fix the scratches.

The angle is actually photo'ing a bit more severe than it actually is, but I do have it a bit unconventional right now. I'm working my way down with it.

I think it's the 175mm cranks that are making it tough...I had the same issue dialing in my 175mm crank Primato.

I have been professionally fit, the frame is fine, it's the cranks that are too long. I also prefer a shallower set of drops. It makes the fit different and harder to find a comfortable spot on it. I also suggest not commenting on someone's bike fit without riding with them.

The bike is a work in progress, as stated in the first post.
