All this buzz about the world ending tomorrow has me remembering the relative panic surrounding new years 1999 / 2000. Y2K this, Y2K that. people feared that their bank accounts would be drained, their computers would simply shut down, too funny!

in the end, i think a few VCR clocks were wrong, but sure a lot of fanfare over nothing.

Well, no. There was a lot of effort to remediate old code and it worked. We had one application issue at 00:00 GMT. It was fixed within the hour. A lot of people put in a ton of effort to track the stuff down, find the source code and fix it. We did numerous tests at our offsite disaster recovery vendor where we set the clock ahead and ferreted out all the abends. It probably chewed up about a quarter of my work hours that year.

That's where I spent that evening. In a conference room at work with my feet on the table.

Good remember though, if you have to pick a ride day this weekend Saturday would be better than Sunday. Then again, maybe Sunday would be a good day to ride as traffic could be lighter.

Yeah I was told that the Judgement Day will come on May 21.

I asked which year and he never did reply. :crap:

AngryScientist...the reason everything was so calm during the Millennium Crossover was because BILLIONS of lines of software code had been examined and remediated.
Tom is absolutely correct...that precise outcome of essentially nothing happening is precisely what was desired and achieved when we switched from 1999 to 2000.

That panic allowed me to change careers and move from the non-profit world to the wonderful world of IT for free! Ah, good times.

I liked the positive outcome of the double negative.

We worked hard to make this a non-event.

Just try and disprove it
