A used Record 13-29 cassette (http://cgi.ebay.com/Campagnolo-Record-Cassette-10-speed-13-29-/160582237122?pt=Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2563727bc2&autorefresh=true) that I'm pretty sure isn't really Record (all the cogs are drilled) just sold for more than $225. We live in a fallen world. Or something.

Looks like Chorus to me. Notice that the larger cogs aren't a different (read Ti) color?

Campy makes me sad. :( Earlier today I saw a crank listed for $700.

its not campy, people need to know what they're buying...don't rely on the the seller, do your research and ask questions. its really not so hard.

This raises a question I've been meaning to ask. Does the lockring normally come with the cassette or with the hub? If someone sells a set of Campagnolo compatible wheels, should they include the lockring if the cassette isn't included?

Does the lockring normally come with the cassette or with the hub? For road, lockring with cassette. For track, lockring with hub. IMHO anyways

unless you're really counting grams, veloce or centaur 10-sp cassettes are available new for quite a bargain from the UK sites, paying that much for a used cassette with questionable lineage and non-matching lockring is just silly.

You can't question eBay. eBay is a free market and, as we all know, the free market is NEVER wrong.

This Campy kid isn't foolish enough to buy Record. I get Centaur cassettes and the cost is much better. I don't buy Dura Ace for my cross bike either. Ultegra it is. I can't see spending top dollar on wear items (that wear out faster).

By the way, Campy sells their lockring with the hubs/wheels (12 tooth). If you get an 11 tooth cassette you get a lockring with it.

Campagnolo sells the 12t and 13t cassettes without the lock ring. The 11t cassettes come with the lock ring. Many ads will make note whether or not the lock ring is included. The 11t lock ring is smaller in diameter than the 12t because of the diameter of the smallest cog in the cassette so they are not interchangeable.

Compared with Record, Dura Ace is a bargain

Yet complete group prices are pretty much in line.

Super Record levers are cheaper that Ultegra. Go figure.

This is Centaur, Chorus has 2 addition spidered sections.

NOT ebay's fault but the seller and buyer, caveat emptor.

Since 2009, cogset comes with a lockring. Not with the hub.

Not these days for hubs. Record hubs do not have a lockring. Cogs come with lockrings now.

Thanks for the update. I haven't built up Record hubs in a while I guess.

Just built a set of DT 415/465 for a gent with a new Moots RSL. Even tho they are black only, 32 hole only, still really nice hubs and on par with DA and DT price wise. Love ball bearings!!

I recommend Record over DT all the time. For 32 spoke wheels, they are the best bang for the buck. Plus the skewers aren't half bad either.

I will say that the Alchemy rear hub does more for strengthening Campy and Shimano builds than any other hub.

Ouch, listed at $105 new at TotalCycling (when they actually would ship it to you is another question), and $130 at Amazon.

what it means is that it's a sellers market and the season has begun. the north has warmed up and is starting this years ride and looking to buy stuff. so now i should start listing stuff on ebay. lockring with cassette if i don't need it when i sell. My opinion.

Yep, ebay is what it is. Now is generally not the time to buy-- that's between late Jan and early March, IME, when cyclists are huddled by their wood stoves or solar panels or something.

Prices on ebay follow little logic, and there are often ridiculous outliers on either end of the pricing spectrum.

FWIW eBay has made some changes to protect the buyer, some have said even gone too far...

Of course, in this situation, the buyer has to actually realize the issue.

I think you misread me. My point was that it was sad that the buyer got taken to the cleaners. A tragedy? No, not at all. A bummer? Yeah, sort of. Anyway, since we're picking nits, I thought I'd mention that if you can find a 13-29 Record cassette at Colorado Cyclist for $250, you have magic internet skillz, and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Actually, I bought an 11-23 Record cassette a few weeks ago. It was a Buy It Now for ~$100, and after I corresponded with the seller -- asking how many cogs were Ti, how many miles were really on it, etc. -- it seemed like it was worth the gamble.

Wait, the two smallest cogs on Record Ti cassettes are supposed to be made out of brie, aren't they? Or some other soft cheese? Whatever, this thing is light.

I was going to say you can't rape the willing, but caveat emptor seems more appropriate in this case.

I think that there are some mercenary eBay sellers who set exorbitantly high prices, esp. on rarely listed items, in hopes of landing a big fish, or whale, with a sucker price. Without recourse to price comparisons at a given time i.e. the buyer hasn't been following the product or category religiously like many on this forum do, the buyer may well make a foolish decision, which is only foolish if one has complete information.

The whole point of arbitrage is to take advantage of dislocations in pricing information and turn an easy profit.

On the other hand, eBay is a pretty active marketplace and one would think that if there many substitutes on offer, there would be a downward pressure on prices.
