Some know that the Captain is back again with his own new old boat, yes I just made my re-entry into Fiberglass again and we are soon christening "Another Wrinkle" a Montgomery 15 vintage 2002, sail #616 that we just recieved last weekend from her previous owner in Duluth MN. These small micro crusiers as they are called are rocket ship fast for their size and they can sail very well in heavy air (the main reason I bought her). Anyway it's grey cold and dreary outside and it does not hurt to dream a dream about that perfect beat to weather. So here is a Montgomery forum member aboard his M15 "SIX" on Monterey Bay CA in 20 knots with a reef in the main and his working jib up. He is solo sailing too. Enjoy :)

Not bad for a 15 foot boat that weighs 750 lbs with a sail plan of about 122 ft with main and working jib up. Keel weight is 315 lbs with 45 lbs of that in a center board that lengthens the keel from 15 inches below the water line to 2 ft plus.

Enjoy the new toy. You're going to have some tough choices to make this summer - ride or sail?

Unfortunately, I haven't gotten out sailing like I used to, mostly by choice, though. Sailing is one of the best avocations one can learn. It's simple, you're outdoors in the elements, you can go places, you're challenged. Great stuff.

With fuel prices rising , sailing is definitely a option. Enjoy the mist.

Sailing was my passion for many years - until family events limited my available time. Used to race a Tanzer 16 (425 lbs, 145' sail area) in summer months and Catalina (22, 25) or J-Boat (22, 24, 29) in the winter.

Started off sailing Lasers and Sunfish, graduated to purchase a Prindle 16 which I raced extensively on the Chesapeake Bay
Then bougtht with partners a Laser 28 and then a multidue of windsurfers galore as this took up my passions as crew became scarce. Then in 2001 bought a Precision 21 to fill a void.
Sold the P21 and wanted something my wife and I could sail in a blow without a third hand which lead to the Montgomery 15 which is a very hot desired boat. It rests in my driveway as this boat takes up little space and with a 2 hp Honda outboard less gas too. Think daysailor with a camping cabin.

Looking forward to more time in retirement and more places to take this baby to explore new waters I said I'd always do and never came back too.

It's a fabulous museum and touring it gave this old Army officer a bunch of respect for the duties performed by the crew, especially the 18-19 year-olds.
Much is expected of ones so young/inexperienced.

For many years BC (before children) we used to sail the region's lakes in an old Albacore that Mrs. RW inherited from an uncle. I sold the boat when it sat unused for two years, but I wouldn't mind getting back into the sport with the kids being older.

Always thought sailing & cycling complemented each other quite nicely. Wind too strong for cycling? Go for a sail. No wind for sailing? Go for a ride. Used to
ride my bike to my boat, but currently landlocked & boatless. Ken

Me, on my sail "boat".

As a kid I used to sail a West Wright Potter in the San Fransisco Bay. A move away from the coast resulted in a sale of the boat. I fed my wind addiction with learning how to windsurf on an inland lake. I find windsurfing a better fit for my current lifestyle (smaller gear, no need to tow a trailer, no storage or moorage).

I still get out on a boat now and then and have a great time.

West WIGHT Potter?

West WIGHT Potter?

It was a long time ago in a land far, far, away. I will take your word for it that Wight is the correct spelling. Pardon my error and thanks for the correction. :)

Since we're doing show-and-tell, this is my Impulse 26 "Underdog" that I can campaign during the summer months. Photo was taken during the last big race of 2010.

Another shot from earlier in the same race: had already broached, blown the big chute, and were on to the chicken chute. It was blowing a good 20-25kts and we're doing near 10kts through the water here:
