Dumb 7900 hub question

Just a silly question:
I normally use the included before putting on a 7900 cassette on a dt 240 hub.
Do you still use that spacer when using a 7900 cassette on a 7900 hub?

Thanks thats what I thought.

So here is the follow up, under what conditions would you not install the spacer?
If there isnt one, why not just make the cassette wider so there wouldnt be a small spacer to lose?

It is not used on DT190 shimano specific freehub bodies, as well as some other shimano specific freehubs like this. I agree with you however - Shimano created a silly and potentially confusing issue for no reason by making this recess in their cassettes and thus requiring the spacer/special hub.
