Wondering if any out there in reynolds 531 land believe, (or have heard this theory dis/proved) the claim made by some classic bike restoration houses that, bead blasting (aka stress relieving) a steel frame actually increases the strengh and durability of said frame?? Now I've heard such claims made for certain aircraft components of various different metals, but for a bike frame? Thanks, JL
Indy fab made the claim on thier Ti frames that bead blasting compresses the outer layer of the material making it stronger. I don't know if that holds true for steel, or even if that is true.
I probably didn't help all that much, but thats all I have to say about that.
a steel frame is bead blasted prior to priming and painting, mainly to allow the paint and primer to adhere better to the steel tubes, though I don't know how much (if any) stress relieving this does to the frame. Any frame builders care to chime in?
