Thinking about upgrading my current helmet, a bell alchera, which cost me about ~$40 several years ago. Looking at the models out there, many cost $100 or more, and are not that much lighter, maybe 50 grams? less. I've never been too hot, uncomfortable, "heavy" feeling, or felt a lack of ventilation with my alchera. What am I missing out on?

Street cred.

well I ride solo so street cred is not a factor.

I buy nothing but mid range helmets for sale at Performance. They're supposed to protect your brain to the same standard as the really nice ones.

Better stuff to blow your cash on imo. Enjoy the cheap helmets and just ride.

Try the Specialized Propero. Smart fitting system for not much money. I say the fit is the thing!

All helmets meet the same safety requirements, the cost is in the detail design and marketing. Similar to the difference between a Chevy Aveo and a Corvette.

There is this Specialized lid that blows everything else away.......for my head.

Significantly lighter (100 g less than my older Bell Sweep), incredible fit and top of the line ventilation.

It's over US$200 bucks though.

all about how it feels... I'm a huge fan of the Lazer Rollsys fit for me...

fit is king. readily available replaceable pads are good too. other than that, its all about ventilation and street cred.

i've never paid more than $100 for a helmet.
