Heel cup on 2003 Rocket7 shoes failed during intervals Friday night

(had to be...all saturday freakin yard work).

Best shoes ever.

Doof needs them for freakishly flat and long arches

Stock geo is fine

Stock shoes are not.

Doof now off bike in middle of racing season.

"I take it that Perfect Glue #3 would be the right one to use to make the shoes useable for the 4-6 weeks it would take to get new ones.

Any other ideas about what would be a good epoxy to patch the carbon heel cup with?"

yeah

calming down

instead of epoxy which relies on the power of glue, i would try super-glue and thread. this mixture is considerably more resliant. the thread adds a lot of strength which is needed under duress.

lay a thin layer of super-glue down, then wrap the area with thread(regular sewing thread is fine) till it's dry, then wet the thread with the super-glue, then wrap in thread till it's dry ... then wet with the super glue one last time.

note: by 'till it's dry' i don't mean that you should wait until the glue dries. you should keep wrapping thread until it's no longer wet from the glue. this is not a problem since you will be wetting it with glue again...

the end product is extemely durable, think fiberglass, and has a nice glassy finish. let it dry overnight. i used to use this technique on my remote control cars all the time. if you do the thread / glue bit 3-5 times it will be so tough you'll need a dremel tool to break it open.

i own a pair. i'd be upset if they
came undone in 18 months. if
they did, i'd be camping out at
the worldwide headquarters.

Mine are 12 months old. They were great to deal with, give them a call and see what they will do.

I have two old pair of cycling shoes that I use. The sole of one of the shoes, in one pair, started coming lose. I took it to a shoe repair to see if it could be glued. It was glued it and it has been fine ever since.
