I've just taken apart my Specialized M2 S-Works (circa 1997/1998). Upon doing so, I noticed that attaching the wheel to the manitou sx-ti was an oversized through axle quick release. I've not seen a 15mm axle in person, but it seems this could be large enough to fit the bill....

I wasn't able to really find info through a few google searches on the matter, as was wondering if anyone here knew what the deal was. Any info about the axle size on these bikes would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I had no idea that a 15mm axle (or even an oversized one) was used on bikes of this vintage, or this make...

I don't think a 15mm was used at that time. The fork is likely a later replacement, hence the large axle.

I think I've got it.... they just used a 9mm though axle... the fork I believe, is original
