I'm restoring a 1985 Serotta Nova Special. Right now all the money's going into the frame, so I can't afford the period Campy components. When I'm done, she'll have red paint, yellow decals and tape, and Dura-ace & 600 components. What bottle cages would you use with this bike? Any other suggestions?

retro look, readily available, won't mark up your bottles with aluminum oxide.

King stainless cages are great in my book.

stainless look classic...but for a budget, Specialized makes a very nice looking, inexpensive cage that would not detract at all from the bike. Less than $10. In fact, it would be more true to the era when all cages were pretty cheap.

They are period correct and can be found quite often on Ebay.

Yellow cages. If you can't find them, ship a pair to Spectrum Powderworks for powdercoating.

And if you have any real sense of taste, you'll install yellow cable housing as well.

And if you're really paying attention, you'll tape your bars as per the instructions on Tom Kellogg's Spectrum-cycles web site (http://www.spectrum-cycles.com/63.htm) and rid yourself of those unsightly, color UN-coordinated end tapes.

Uber bonus points if the handlebar end plugs are yellow as well.

These beauties are the best.

Beautiful, and reasonably durable. Photo here: http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=8137

Good suggestions. Also, I don't believe modern handlebars would look right on this machine. I'm thinking Cinelli.

Pick up a photo book of racers at the time and you'll find a few items find their way onto lots of riders bikes. Simplex retrofriction levers and T/A bottle cages are the two that come to mind. As for a bar/stem combo, it's got to be Cinelli.
