I just bought a pair of HED Ardennes aluminum wheels. The rims are quite wide, as compared to Fulcrums or Mavics. Will a regular 700x23 tire work or do I need a wider tire?

23c tires will work just fine. They will measure about 25-26mm when mounted on those rims.

If you search the forum you will find lots of discussion for tires pressures to run with these.

Play around but depending on your weight you can run 10% lower or more.

Here is a response from HED on my inquiry as to what size tires fit on the Ardennes:

"Anything from 22 to 52. 22 to 24 work best for the road. -andy"

I have a pair and they are very nice. I've used 23c and 25c, both are good rides. AN IMPORTANT NOTE....double check the width of the rim strip you use. I found the blue Velox which are 22-23mm provide better protection than the green Velox which are slightly narrower. enjoy the ride.

I ride Michelin pro 2s at a 25 width on my Ardennes. 95 or so psi. Very comfortable.

HED now makes their own rim strip that should come with most of their wheels so far as I know. If not you can order direct from HED.

It is the perfect width.

I've used prorace2's at 25c and prorace3's at 23c on my Ardennes. The 23c's are easier to get through the caliper brakes and ride just fine. I like the ride on both widths. The wheels are wonderful.

Thanks for all the feedback. I just got a pair of the Ardennes Flamme Rouge. So they have carbon hubs, ceramic bearings and Ti skewers
I'll throw some tires on and get training.

You will be amazed at how much you will like the FR wheels.

I just got a pair of Velocity A23 and used Velocity's plugs instead of rim strip.
Light and don't need to remove strip to get to a nipple. Great idea.
