Hi all. I have a stock 96 CSI 57L with a threaded steel fork which I am going to build up. Does anyone know the stack height of the headset? What headset was likely to have been on it originally?

Bike started life as a frameset, could have had any HS on it.
Measure headtube length, measure fork steerer-that's the HS stack you need.
For example, headtube 130mm, fork steerer 170mm, HS stack is 40mm..find a headset with a stack height of 40mm or less.

Thanks for the help guys. My next question is how to measure the steerer if there is no crown race installed?

I have a CK on my CSi which is from the same time frame as yours and it works fine.
