No kidding. You're basically bidding 300 bucks for a water bottle cage and seatpost clamp, plus pocket change in scrap steel. Yes, it's a Serotta. It's also completely unusable.

Honestly, (NOT for me... still...) this could be repaired. 2 tubes, check alignment, paint, well.... then again for the $$ you can essentially get an undamaged frame.

Ouch. Hurts to see frames like this... :crap:

Side note... Paul - ride?!?

I know you read the entire forum...

Buy it for cheap and put S&S couplers on the damaged area.

Might look a little strange with couplers up front but who

cares.

Also be careful when buying used bikes to run your finger down the underside of the downtube. Not all impact damage is as obvious as this one. A couple years ago, I looked at a vintage steel Trek from craigslist with the tell-tale slight bulge on the bottom of the down tube, which also explained the mismatched wheels.

The woman said she was selling it for a "friend" and I suggested she might not want to, given the liability of selling a damaged frame, but she never took the ad down. Also, I started recognizing her front yard in a lot of other ads, so she had lots of "friends," or more likely a generous town dump.

Last thing, as a side note regarding the coupler idea: I'm guessing splitting the bike 1/3 and 2/3 would defeat the point of the couplers (splitting the frame in half for shipping).

Driving my 1985 Allez into the carport changed my life. I missed 20 years of bike technology, but then got sucked in, bought a Serotta, started local group rides, started racing, and now I'm a total addict. If I hadn't driven into the carport, I might still be out there on my Allez once a week, suffering through a 20 miler.
