I have one frozen pedal ss spindle. After taking it apart I found full of water,so it sat the winter like that.
Took it all apart (quite simple)cleaned it up greased and its working but a rough feel when rotating.
Have a call into sp and was interested if anyone has rebuilt these?
I have a chrome moly pr maybe I could transfer bearings?
Thanks for any insight .

be prepared to get contacted by Speedplay's legal team for even contemplating this, much less posting it here :)

If the axle is OK, you can get replacement 'pucks'. And ignore the post and following posts about SP 'goon squads', blah, blah, blah...old news and of no merit for somebody that just wants to get his pedals fixed. Go see a LBS that deals with SP...

Rebuilding the frogs are easy! Speedplay provides a detailed description on how to take apart its Frog pedal. I called Speedplay about what bearings are needed and was told to buy their bearing kit from them that contains 2 cartridge bearings, 2 needle bearings and 2 o-rings. The cost is $37, Ouch!

I took my Frog pedal apart and found the bearings to be a basic cartridge and needle bearing. I went to a local bearing shop and picked up one cartridge bearing (p/n R4Z) and 1 needle bearing (p/n HK1010) for a total cost of $10. The o-ring is also replaceable, but the one I had seemed OK, so I just reused it. So DIY and save! Good Luck!

No relationship to this seller other than having been in contact with him about rebuilding some Speedplay X-series pedals, but here's something you may want to consider:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180630715380&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

$37 for the rebuild service.

Also, he says that the pedal body sealant is actually latex based, FWIW.

so if you take em apart and find you just need bearing, here they are:

http://www.mybiketinley.com/Enduro-Speedplay-Frog-Pedal-Kit_p_761.html

still spendy and you might still need pucks, sealer, o-rings. great pedals and speedplay is the source for parts other than bearings.

Actually, not a bad deal as the bearings come out to like $4 each! Further, o-rings are common items in just about any hardware store and basically cheap.

Unless you damaged the "pucks," I doubt they need replacing. Throw a little latex sealer in when you're done! Rebuilding frogs pedals is very simple. For under $20, you cand DIY. What's not to like?! Good Luck!

I went to a local bearing shop and...

Wait, what?

You have a local bearing shop in your neighborhood? Are these common?

Most neighborhoods have one or perhaps two... you just have to look.

I found the bearings locally @ $15 for ea pedal so yours is much better price pt thanks.
I will also try to find the specs on the shaft mic them to see if there worth rebuilding.

Thanks for mentioning the bearing size!

Got back from a ride and one pedal worked and the other....
Took it apart and tried to clean the bad bearing... no dice. Saw this thread and got the bearing from amazon (http://amzn.to/2fag923). All is better now. Thanks!

Wait, what?

You have a local bearing shop in your neighborhood? Are these common?

Yes, very commday.I bet we have 30 bearing supply shops within 10 m8Bumiles of here. I live in oilfield territory and I have a dozen machine shops within 5 miles of here too. When Serotta would not sell me a 31.8 mm stem for my size cycle, one of my customers built one for me the next day.

Rebuilding a Frog pedal is really simple and cheap. I bought extra bearings the last time I rebuilt one pair of mine. Don't forget to use a grease gun and flush out any moisture that gets inside on a regular basis.

Haha, yes, even here in SF, I know of two bearing shops:

Bearing Agencies which is like 6 or so blocks from my work:

There's also Bearing Engineering down on 3rd St, which is probably 10-15 minutes away by car.

Btw, there's a guy on ebay that sells the entire Speedplay rebult kit for $15 shipped! When I ordered from him, he still had 10+ remaining!

Good Luck!

I highly recommend this seller for all things Speedplay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/frikinspit_2/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

He is also very responsive to any questions you may have and sells high-quality bearings equal to or better than the original ones.

$15 for the kit.

I grease my Frogs every 500 or so miles and have never rebuilt them but have it on the agenda for the winter tear down. They spin fine but after a gazillion miles, it just seems right to replace

I opened mine up to replace the bearings and I got a little too keen cleaning out the pucks. I removed all the latex/silicone and I'm not wondering if I'm going to have major problems next time I inject grease in to the pedals.

Anyone want to speculate on what i could use to reseal the surfaces? Clear latex caulk? Or is that going to permanently stick the 2 sides together?

FWIW, I don't think they were sealed great before. I had grease leaking out of the pedal and all the chambers in the pucks were filled with grease.

as suggested in the instructions:

http://www.speedplay.com/pubs/frog_instructions_04.20.09web.pdf

maybe this:

https://www.google.com/search?q=silicone+gasket+sealer&sxsrf=ALeKk025cuxm7kCn3DCO5UIO25yHTXNvKQ:159250536 2876&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiQ3dPjgIzqAhWItZ4KHUsdDrMQ_AUoAnoECA4QB A&biw=1280&bih=578#imgrc=dPUpQMyz0rRCsM

pretty easy to slide a knife between pedal halve if you need to get them separated.
