Man, was watching and manually snipping this. Was willing to go high and was the high bidder with 10 sec left at $96.00 which I think is high but I was willing.

Then I was sniped but check the price. Holy prawls!

Wow. not sure if there's a winner there.

That can't be correct. If it is, that's insane.

A while back I gave away on this very forum what I think was a 14-28 Shimano 7-spd freewheel. Brand new. I can't imagine that mine was worth even a tenth of what that went for.

The seller, for sure.

Time to see what else is in the ol' parts bin...

I have two drawers of freewheels I was planning to sell for about $30 apiece.

I may need to re-think that.

definitely sketchy, maybe they sold it outside ebay after someone bid and had to make it not sell to a real someone

Does seem sketchy, but the last two bidders that had it our were in Germany. They get collection crazy like the Japanese, but $450? Seriously?

That happened to me once. I was selling an NOS Concor Profil. The winning bidder, in Japan, bid $600. Then never paid

Mike,
I have a new one for you. How does a burrito and beer Friday b4 Veloswap sound?

Doesn't seem right. This thing just doesn't have any collector's value. At all.

I also have one of these. Never installed, don't need it. I've been almost ashamed to list it for sale, because it's so heavy and dorky.

Does eBay still use proxy bidding? I always use eSnipe so don't bother with the usual bidding process.

It looks like from the bid list that bidder t***o bid $101.55 a few seconds before the auction ended and then tow other guys bid the $450 figure a second later.

How could the price go from $101 to $450 that quick with no other escalating amounts? Wouldn't the system automatically only bid a dollar or $5 more? Looks like maybe two guys were having a p*ssing match?

Just another reason to use eSnipe . . .

If he sold it outside of EBay he could just cancel it to minimize fees. Good for the seller if it is legit, but seems fishy to me as well. Let's see if it gets relisted shorty because this buyer didn't pay.

Rod, may take you up on the Burrito and beer... I was looking at the 11x28 specifically for the Toei. But, I can live w/o the 11 and get an older nano or even a sachs freewheel. Hell, I have a bin and a Suntour Winner Pro that I can use in a pinch.

I'd bet that the seller won't get paid.

One of the problems with ebay is that you're bidding against a person who wants it more than you. In many cases that person has an irrational desire for the item.

Just like in stocks, I believe you have to keep a limit - an out point - firmly in mind. What's your max bid? And don't exceed it.

Do you know about Auction Sniper ?

Hey Mark

I have used ensipe for many years and it has worked well for me for exactly that reason. I can bid by proxy, set it and forget it and not get caught up in the emotion of a bidding war. Just happened to be watching this one and I was in manual mode b/c I forgot to set my snipe;)

I'll check out the one you mentioned.

+1000 on the esnipe.

Ever since BBD mentioned esnipe several years ago, I have used it to buy a Mac and other big ticket items off eBay. As an aside, without the forum, I wouldn't be aware of a lot of cool stuff. Anyway, I think it is free for first 2 weeks or something? I haven't been on eBay for a long time and won't for the foreseeable future, but if I really want it, I'll use esnipe.

I use nothing else to bid on eBay for exactly the reasons others have mentioned here. I get emotionally involved and end up buying stuff I don't really need and spending too much on it. eSnipe has totally cured that!

i'm more baffled as to why the OP would have willingly paid $96 for that freewheel.

are these rare or or desired?

Wilkinson4

Touché on the why I would. Need a new one and have a nos hg chain. Going on a bike where an 11/28 makes sense and didn't see anything at the time.

Sheldon Brown has a good writeup up on them and they are serciceable. But, i'll be better off with a cheapo sun race anyway so probably a good thing.
