So, I'm trying to upgrade the front brake on my wife's Gary Fisher Simple City 3. The stock brake is a dual pivot, long reach (longer than a 57mm reach), non recessed center mount bolt. Is there another brake out there that will provide some great stopping power (like a paul racer...but maybe less expensive), will provide enough clearance for the 45mm(ish) fenders, and utilize a non-recessed center mount bolt?

I'm not sure but there is good info on the Rivendell site.

The Tektro 556 and 730 meet your needs. Not expensive, long reach, and you can swap the nut to make them non-recessed. Plenty of power too.

A friend of mine has those brakes and they are really good brakes. Stiff.

Those are beautiful. It looks like they are only sold as a set. My wife's bike is has a nexus coaster brake set-up so I'd onl need a front brake. Follow-up question...will a mountain bike brake lever work with those?

Those VO brakes are a work of art in their own right. Very tempted to get them. Anybody needs fresh unmounted Shimano R650?

Drill out the back hole for a recessed nut and open up your choices for front brakes. I do it all the time.

VO sells these centerpulls too. Sorry for the huge photo.

Actually, they don't. shimano does make some 'long' reach brakes, not the uber reach like Tektro but they are not 'Ultegra' per 66/6700..R650/R450 are the shimano long reach offerings. For info-nice brakes, BTW-not expensive, work well.

I have the VO Grand Cru and I like them. I can't comment on the pads that come with them yet, but the brakes modulate well and provide good stopping power. Look nice too.

Do these VO brakes have all stainless steel hardware? Tektro hardware always seems to rust, Shimano doesn't in my experience.
