Hey guys, I think there are likely some on the forum who have the '89 Paramount OS -- I got one on ebay and want to add STI shifters to it, which means replacing the 8 speed RD, cassette, and adding brifters. I figure I'll try to pick up some 9 speed Shimano gear -- will this work? Any caveats? Also, I have a spare Thomsen 27.2 seatpost I was going to use with it, but hoo, it seams like the tolerances are really tight, is 27.2 too big?

Thank you,

Chad

I have a 1992 Pmount OS Series 5 outfitted with 8-speed STI. I found it with the upgrade already installed, so all I can say is it works. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to perform it on yours.

The Schwinn catalog specifies a 27.2 mm seatpost for mine.

This archive only goes back to 1991, so I'm not sure about yours. I presume that it's the same size though.

I'm using the stock seatpost and it's TIGHT, but it fits. If yours isn't fitting in after applying grease, there might be a tolerance issue.

If I ever sell it I would put the o/g wheels and seatpost back on.

JVP -- hey, what brifters are you running?

They are the original dura ace 8 speeds. The front and rear der.'s are original also, as well as the brake calipers. The parts I upgraded were the wheels, saddle, seatpost, and nitto stem (original modolo stem was too long for me).
